As a usher, you are a minister of hospitality and caring in the church. You will be one of the first who will have opportunity to demonstrate how we embrace our community. When people come to church they are sometimes burdened, sad or discouraged. Each person, member or newcomer, comes with the hope that the service will be an experience that will uplift and inspire, a time of renewal and celebration. The skillful usher helps to make this a reality for those in attendance. The ushers greet people as they enter and leave the church, seat people at the proper time, and provide bulletins and/or other materials at the time of seating. The ushers will be attentive to the needs of the congregation and the pastor. An usher will also assist the elderly and handicapped, direct worshippers/visitors to available seats, gather offerings and deliver them promptly to the counting area of the church, and prepare for the next service. Ushers attend training sessions, and are able to arrive 30 minutes prior to service, and be available to commit to a monthly rotation.
